SIDS

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) refers to the unexpected death of an otherwise healthy infant, usually during sleep, that cannot be explained even after thorough investigation. It most commonly affects babies between one month and one year old, particularly those aged 2-4 months. Factors associated with SIDS include sleep position (such as sleeping on the stomach), exposure to smoke, and sleeping environment risks. To reduce the risk, parents are advised to place infants on their backs for sleep, use a firm mattress, and avoid soft bedding. SIDS remains a significant concern in pediatric health.
