Shinran

Shinran (1173–1263) was a Japanese Buddhist monk who founded Pure Land Buddhism, emphasizing reliance on Amida Buddha’s compassionate vow for salvation. He taught that enlightenment depends not on complex practices or personal effort, but on sincere faith and trust in Amida’s infinite vows to save all beings. Shinran believed that the most effective way to attain rebirth in the Pure Land—a blissful state beyond suffering—is through heartfelt reliance on Amida’s grace, making spiritual attainment accessible to everyone regardless of status or ability. His teachings highlight humility, faith, and the importance of earnest devotion.
