Shaken Baby Syndrome
Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is a serious brain injury that occurs when an infant is violently shaken, often due to frustration or anger from a caregiver. The shaking can cause the baby's brain to move back and forth inside the skull, leading to bruising, swelling, and bleeding. This can result in long-term disabilities, including developmental delays, or even death. SBS is preventable. It’s crucial for caregivers to seek help when feeling overwhelmed and to understand that a baby should never be shaken, even in moments of distress.
