Sensorimotor Stage
The sensorimotor stage is the first phase of cognitive development, as proposed by psychologist Jean Piaget, occurring from birth to about 2 years old. During this stage, infants learn through their senses and actions, exploring the world by seeing, touching, and manipulating objects. They develop key concepts like object permanence, understanding that objects continue to exist even when out of sight. This stage lays the foundation for future learning, as children begin to form mental representations and develop basic problem-solving skills through active exploration and interaction with their environment.
