Senate voting system

The Senate voting system is a process used in the United States Senate where senators propose, debate, and vote on legislation. Each senator represents a state and has one vote. A simple majority (at least 51 votes) is usually required to pass a bill. However, to overcome a filibuster—where debate is extended to delay a vote—60 votes are needed to invoke cloture and end the debate. This system balances the influence of smaller states and ensures that legislation has broad support before becoming law.
