Amartya Sen is an influential Indian economist and philosopher known for his work on welfare economics, poverty, and development. He introduced the Capability Approach, which emphasizes the importance of people's abilities to achieve well-being rather than just measuring economic wealth. Sen argues that true development should enhance individuals’ freedoms and choices, allowing them to lead fulfilling lives. His research has shaped policies on health, education, and social justice, highlighting the interconnectedness of economic and social factors. In 1998, he won the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to understanding poverty and inequality.
