Sellick maneuver

The Sellick maneuver, also known as cricoid pressure, is a technique used in emergency medicine to prevent stomach contents from entering the airway during intubation. It involves applying pressure to the cricoid cartilage, which is located in the neck. By pressing down on this area, it helps to compress the esophagus, reducing the risk of aspiration, or choking, if the patient vomits. This maneuver is typically employed in unconscious patients who may be unable to protect their own airway, ensuring safer management during medical procedures.
