Seizure classification

Seizure classification categorizes seizures based on how they affect the brain and body. Primarily, they fall into two main types: focal seizures, which start in one area of the brain and may or may not affect awareness; and generalized seizures, which involve both sides of the brain from the onset and affect awareness. Within these categories, there are specific types with distinct characteristics, such as absence seizures, characterized by brief lapses in awareness, and tonic-clonic seizures, known for muscle stiffening and convulsions. Proper classification helps in diagnosis and treatment.
