The Classification of Seizures (ILAE, 1981)

The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) classifies seizures into two main types based on where they start in the brain: focal seizures, which originate in one specific area, and generalized seizures, which begin in both sides of the brain at once. Some seizures can start focally and then spread to involve the whole brain. This classification helps doctors understand and treat seizures more effectively by identifying their origin and pattern, leading to better management and care for individuals experiencing seizures.
