Scottish Devolution
Scottish Devolution refers to the process through which Scotland gained its own parliament and government in 1999, allowing it to self-govern on many issues, such as education, health, and justice. This was a result of a referendum in 1997, where a majority of Scots voted in favor of having greater control over their affairs. Devolution means that while the UK Parliament in Westminster still oversees areas like defense and foreign policy, the Scottish Parliament handles various domestic matters, reflecting Scotland's distinct identity and needs within the United Kingdom.
