Savonarola
Girolamo Savonarola was a 15th-century Italian Dominican friar and religious reformer, known for his passionate sermons in Florence. He criticized the corruption of the Catholic Church, the excesses of the Medici family, and the moral decay of society. Savonarola gained a following and briefly ruled Florence, promoting a strict, moralistic community. His influence peaked in the 1490s but declined after he was excommunicated and arrested. In 1498, he was executed for heresy. Today, Savonarola is remembered for his fervent advocacy for reform and his role in the tumultuous landscape of Renaissance Italy.
