Sasanian military
The Sasanian military, active from 224 to 651 CE, was the armed force of the Sasanian Empire in Persia, known for its effective organization and advanced tactics. It included heavily armored cavalry, known as cataphracts, and skilled archers, emphasizing mobility and shock action. The army was complemented by infantry units and a network of fortified cities for defense. The Sasanians also developed sophisticated siege technologies. Their military prowess allowed them to engage in prolonged conflicts with rivals like Rome and the Byzantine Empire, greatly influencing the region's history until the rise of Islam.
