sarcoplasmic hypertrophy
Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy refers to an increase in the size of muscle cells primarily due to a greater volume of sarcoplasm, the fluid and energy-storing components within the cell, rather than an increase in the number of muscle fibers or contractile proteins. This type of growth leads to larger-looking muscles and is often achieved through higher-repetition, moderate-weight training that emphasizes muscle fatigue and metabolic stress. While it enhances muscle size and appearance, it may not significantly improve strength compared to other hypertrophy types focused on increasing muscle fiber density.
