Salt Satyagraha
The Salt Satyagraha was a significant protest in 1930 led by Mahatma Gandhi against British colonial salt laws in India. The British government taxed salt, a basic necessity, and prevented Indians from making or selling their own salt, symbolizing unjust control. Gandhi and thousands of followers marched approximately 240 miles to the sea, where they deliberately made salt from seawater, defying the law. This act of nonviolent civil disobedience unified Indians in resistance, drew global attention to India's struggle for independence, and demonstrated the power of peaceful protest to challenge unjust authority.
