Salonika (World War I)

Salonika, during World War I, refers to the Allied campaign centered around the city of Salonika (now Thessaloniki) in Greece. Initially, the Allies aimed to support Serbia against Bulgarian attacks. From 1915 to 1918, troops from Britain, France, and other nations established a front there, hoping to open a new route for supplies and troops. The campaign faced logistical challenges and was marked by trench warfare, similar to that on the Western Front. Although it ultimately helped in the defeat of the Central Powers, the campaign is often seen as a costly and protracted endeavor with mixed results.
