SAE J3016
SAE J3016 is a standard developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers that classifies levels of driving automation in vehicles. It defines six levels, ranging from Level 0 (no automation) to Level 5 (full automation). At Level 0, the human driver performs all tasks, while Level 5 allows the vehicle to handle all driving responsibilities without human intervention. This classification helps manufacturers, regulators, and consumers understand the capabilities and limitations of automated driving systems, guiding the safe development and use of autonomous vehicles.
