Rojava

Rojava is an autonomous region in northern Syria, known for its efforts to establish a democratic and inclusive society based on principles of feminism, local governance, and environmental sustainability. It emerged during the Syrian conflict as Kurdish-led groups, particularly the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria, sought self-governance. Rojava emphasizes multiculturalism, gender equality, and cooperation among diverse ethnic and religious communities. While not internationally recognized as an independent state, it functions with its own political institutions, military defense (like the Syrian Democratic Forces), and social services, reflecting a unique experiment in grassroots, decentralized governance amid ongoing regional conflicts.
