Rods

Rods are specialized cells in your retina that help with vision in low-light conditions. They are highly sensitive to light but do not detect color, which is why colors seem muted or absent in dim environments. Rods enable you to see shapes, movements, and outlines when lighting is poor, such as at night. They are concentrated around the periphery of the retina, providing peripheral vision and aiding in detecting motion. Unlike cone cells, which function best in bright light and allow for color perception, rods are essential for night vision and detecting objects in relative darkness.
