Roanoke Colony

The Roanoke Colony, established in 1587 on North Carolina’s coast, was an early English settlement in North America. Known as the "Lost Colony," it mysteriously disappeared by 1590, with little evidence of what happened to its inhabitants. When supply ships returned, the colonists had vanished, leaving behind only cryptic clues like a single carved word, "Croatoan." Historians speculate about various theories, including integration with local tribes, relocation, or conflict, but the true fate remains unknown, making it one of history’s enduring mysteries.
