RIR (Regional Internet Registry)

A Regional Internet Registry (RIR) is an organization responsible for managing and distributing large blocks of IP addresses within specific regions of the world. These IP addresses are unique numbers that identify devices on the internet, similar to mailing addresses for people. RIRs ensure fair allocation, prevent shortages, and maintain an accurate registry of who owns which addresses. There are five RIRs globally, each covering regions like North America, Europe, Asia, and others. They work with internet service providers and large organizations to coordinate IP address distribution, helping keep the internet organized, functional, and secure.
