Reaction quotient
The Reaction Quotient (Q) is a measure that helps us understand the state of a chemical reaction at any given moment. It compares the concentrations of products (substances created) to reactants (substances used) based on a specific formula. By calculating Q, we can determine if a reaction is at equilibrium, moving forward, or reversing. If Q equals the equilibrium constant (K), the reaction is balanced. If Q is greater than K, products dominate; if less, reactants are favored. Thus, Q provides insight into the progress and direction of chemical reactions.
