Ras Shamra
Ras Shamra is an archaeological site located in modern-day Syria, known for its ancient Ugaritic ruins. Discovered in the 1920s, it dates back to around 1500 BCE and was a vibrant city in the ancient Canaanite culture. The site is significant for uncovering clay tablets inscribed in Ugaritic, one of the earliest alphabets, revealing insights into Canaanite mythology, religion, and daily life. The findings, including texts and artifacts, have greatly enhanced our understanding of ancient Near Eastern cultures and their influence on later civilizations, including the biblical tradition.
