RANKL

RANKL (Receptor Activator of Nuclear factor Kappa-Β Ligand) is a protein that plays a key role in bone health. It helps regulate the formation and activity of osteoclasts, which are cells responsible for breaking down old or damaged bone. RANKL binds to specific receptors on these osteoclasts, encouraging their development and activity. Proper balance of RANKL is essential for maintaining healthy bone remodeling—breaking down old bone and forming new bone. However, too much RANKL can lead to excessive bone breakdown, contributing to conditions like osteoporosis, where bones become weak and more prone to fractures.
