Pulmonary artery

The pulmonary artery is a major blood vessel in the body that carries deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs. Unlike most arteries that carry oxygen-rich blood, the pulmonary artery transports blood low in oxygen so it can pick up oxygen and release carbon dioxide in the lungs. There are two main branches, each leading to one lung. This process is essential for oxygenating the blood, which is then returned to the heart and pumped out to the rest of the body.
