Pulmonary Alveolar Microlithiasis
Pulmonary Alveolar Microlithiasis is a rare lung condition characterized by the accumulation of tiny calcium-rich particles in the air sacs of the lungs, called alveoli. This buildup can lead to breathing difficulties and reduced oxygen exchange. The exact cause is not well understood, but it is thought to be genetic. Over time, it can contribute to interstitial lung disease, a group of disorders that affect the lung tissue and can lead to scarring of the lungs. Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests and lung function tests, and treatment focuses on managing symptoms.
