Project Loon
Project Loon was an innovative initiative developed by Alphabet's X (formerly Google X) aimed at providing internet access to remote and underserved areas using high-altitude balloons. These balloons, equipped with communication technology, floated in the stratosphere, creating a network that could relay internet signals to the ground. By harnessing wind currents and advanced navigation systems, the balloons could maintain their position and cover large areas. The project aimed to bridge the digital divide, particularly in regions affected by natural disasters or where traditional internet infrastructure was lacking. While it was tested successfully, Project Loon was ultimately discontinued in 2021.
