Proctectomy

Proctectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the rectum, which is the lower part of the large intestine just before the anus. This surgery is commonly performed to treat conditions like rectal cancer, severe inflammatory bowel disease, or other serious rectal issues. After the removal, a new way for waste to exit the body may be created, often through a colostomy, where waste is collected in a bag outside the body. Proctectomy can significantly improve quality of life for patients with serious rectal health issues.
