Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was a declaration by the British Crown following the end of the French and Indian War. It aimed to organize trade and settlement in North America by prohibiting colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. This was done to reduce conflicts with Native Americans and to control expansion. The proclamation angered many colonists who sought new land and economic opportunities, marking an early point of tension between the British government and its American colonies, eventually contributing to the American Revolution.
