Primary Biliary Cirrhosis

Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) is a chronic liver disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the bile ducts. Bile is crucial for digesting fats, and when these ducts are damaged, bile builds up in the liver, leading to inflammation and scarring (cirrhosis). This can eventually impair liver function. PBC mostly affects middle-aged women and symptoms may include fatigue, itching, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin). While there's no cure, treatments can help manage symptoms and slow disease progression. Early diagnosis and monitoring are important for better outcomes.
