Postpartum Thyroiditis
Postpartum thyroiditis is an inflammation of the thyroid gland that occurs after childbirth, typically within a year of delivery. It can cause fluctuations in thyroid hormone levels, leading to symptoms like fatigue, mood swings, and changes in weight. Initially, some women may experience hyperthyroidism (too much hormone), followed by hypothyroidism (too little). While the condition often resolves on its own, monitoring is essential, as prolonged thyroid dysfunction may require treatment. It's a temporary condition that affects some women after giving birth and can impact their recovery during the postpartum period.
