Pongo pygmaeus
Pongo pygmaeus, commonly known as the Bornean orangutan, is a highly intelligent primate native to the rainforests of Borneo. It has a large, hairy body with long arms ideal for swinging through trees, and a face characterized by expressive features and reddish-brown fur. Orangutans are arboreal, spending most of their time in trees, and are primarily frugivorous, eating fruit, leaves, and insects. They are solitary foragers but form social bonds, especially between mothers and their young. As an endangered species, they face threats from habitat loss, poaching, and illegal pet trade.
