PON (Passive Optical Network)

A Passive Optical Network (PON) is a telecommunications system that uses fiber-optic cables to deliver internet and phone services to homes and businesses. Unlike traditional networks that require powered equipment at each junction, PON uses splitters to distribute a single optical signal from a central location to multiple users without needing power at those points. This makes PONs cost-effective and efficient, reducing maintenance and installation costs. Each user connects to the network through an optical network unit (ONU), allowing for high-speed data transmission over long distances with minimal signal loss.
