Passive Optical Network architecture

A Passive Optical Network (PON) is a telecommunications setup that delivers high-speed internet and other services using fiber optic cables. It features a central point called an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) that connects to multiple users through a shared fiber network. Between the OLT and users are passive splitters—special devices that divide the single fiber into multiple connections without power. This setup efficiently distributes data to many homes or businesses, offering fast and reliable service. Since it uses passive components, it requires less maintenance and reduces costs while providing high bandwidth for users.
