Political landscape post-reunification
After reunification, particularly in Germany in 1990, the political landscape saw significant changes. The formerly divided East and West Germany had to integrate vastly different political systems and economies. The West’s democratic and capitalist framework was largely adopted, leading to challenges such as economic disparity and social integration. New political parties emerged, reflecting diverse interests. The reunification process also influenced the European Union's expansion and the geopolitics of Europe, fostering a stronger collective identity while grappling with the legacies of division, including issues of national identity and regional development disparities.
