Polio Vaccination

Polio vaccination helps protect against poliomyelitis, a serious viral disease that can cause paralysis. The vaccine works by teaching the immune system to recognize and fight the poliovirus. There are two main types of polio vaccines: the inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV), given as an injection, and the oral polio vaccine (OPV), taken by mouth. Widespread vaccination efforts have dramatically reduced polio cases worldwide, moving us closer to eradicating the disease. Vaccination is crucial for individual health and community safety, as it prevents outbreaks and protects those who cannot be immunized.
