Polio
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a contagious viral infection primarily affecting children. It is caused by the poliovirus, which can spread through contaminated food or water. Many infected individuals show no symptoms, but the virus can lead to severe complications, including paralysis, by attacking the nervous system. Vaccination has drastically reduced polio cases worldwide, making it a preventable disease. However, in areas with low vaccination rates, outbreaks can still occur. Awareness and vaccination efforts remain crucial to eradicating polio globally.
