Polio Transmission
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is primarily spread through the oral-fecal route. This means that the virus is often found in the stool of an infected person and can contaminate food and water. When someone ingests this contaminated food or water, they can become infected. Polio can also spread through close contact with an infected individual. The virus can lead to severe symptoms, including paralysis, but vaccination has drastically reduced its occurrence. Maintaining good hygiene and sanitation, along with immunization, are key to preventing its transmission.
