Plains Bison
Plains bison, also known as American bison, are large, iconic mammals native to North America. They have a distinctive hump on their shoulders and thick dark brown fur. Historically, they roamed the Great Plains in massive herds, playing a crucial role in the ecosystem and indigenous cultures. Bison are herbivores, primarily grazing on grasses. Due to overhunting and habitat loss in the 19th century, their population dwindled significantly. Conservation efforts have helped their numbers recover, and they are now found in parks and reserves, contributing to grassland health and serving as a symbol of wildlife conservation.
