Photokeratitis
Photokeratitis is a painful eye condition caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays, typically from the sun or artificial sources like tanning beds. It essentially involves a sunburn of the cornea, the clear front part of the eye. Symptoms can include redness, a gritty sensation, sensitivity to light, and blurred vision. While it is usually temporary and resolves within a day or two, it can be quite uncomfortable. To prevent photokeratitis, wearing UV-blocking sunglasses when outdoors is advisable. If symptoms occur, seeking medical attention is important for proper treatment and relief.
