Philo of Alexandria

Philo of Alexandria (c. 20 BCE – c. 50 CE) was a Hellenistic Jewish philosopher who sought to harmonize Jewish theology with Greek philosophy, particularly Stoicism and Platonism. He is known for his allegorical interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures, which he believed revealed deeper spiritual truths. Philo’s work emphasized the role of reason and logos (divine reason) in understanding God and the world. His ideas influenced early Christian thought and the development of religious philosophy, bridging Jewish traditions and Greek philosophical concepts. Philo’s writings reflect an effort to find common ground between faith and reason.
