Perspective Taking
Perspective taking is the ability to understand and consider someone else's thoughts, feelings, and viewpoints. It’s a key component of Theory of Mind, which is the cognitive skill that allows us to recognize that others have their own beliefs and intentions that may differ from our own. This skill is essential for effective communication, empathy, and social interactions, as it helps us navigate relationships and respond appropriately to others. When we engage in perspective taking, we can better understand how someone else might feel or think in a given situation, leading to more compassionate and informed interactions.
