Pershing II Missiles
Pershing II missiles were intermediate-range ballistic missiles developed by the United States during the Cold War. Introduced in the early 1980s, they could deliver nuclear or conventional warheads and had a range of about 1,100 kilometers (approximately 680 miles). These missiles were designed to enhance NATO's deterrence against the Soviet Union by enabling rapid response to threats in Europe. The Pershing II program was notable for its accuracy and speed. In 1987, amid arms reduction talks, the United States agreed to eliminate its Pershing II missiles, leading to a significant reduction of nuclear weapons in Europe.
