Pearson's chi-squared test is a statistical method used to determine if there is a significant difference between observed data and what we would expect based on a particular hypothesis. For example, if you want to see if people prefer different types of music, you would compare the actual responses of a group with what you would expect if there were no preference. If the differences are large enough, it suggests that preferences do exist.
