Pattern Recognition Receptors

Pattern Recognition Receptors (PRRs) are specialized proteins found on immune cells that detect common molecular patterns associated with pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses. These receptors recognize conserved structures called pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage signals from injured cells. Once they identify these patterns, PRRs activate immune responses to neutralize the threat and initiate defense mechanisms. Essentially, PRRs serve as the immune system’s surveillance tools, enabling the body to quickly identify and respond to underlying causes of infection or tissue damage.
