Patient Blood Management
Patient Blood Management (PBM) is a systematic approach to optimize patient care by minimizing the need for blood transfusions. It focuses on three key areas: improving the patient's own blood health through nutrition and treatment of anemia; using advanced techniques during surgeries to reduce blood loss; and safely managing blood transfusion when it is necessary. By maximizing the use of a patient's own blood and ensuring transfusions are only given when absolutely needed, PBM aims to improve recovery outcomes, minimize risks, and enhance the overall safety of medical practices in blood banking and transfusion medicine.
