Red Blood Cells (RBC)

Red blood cells (RBCs), also known as erythrocytes, are vital components of our blood responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body and carrying carbon dioxide back to the lungs for exhalation. They are disk-shaped, flexible cells that contain hemoglobin, a protein that binds oxygen. RBCs are produced in the bone marrow and have a lifespan of about 120 days. Maintaining healthy levels of RBCs is crucial for overall health, as they play a key role in energy production and metabolism. Low RBC counts can lead to anemia and fatigue.
