Pars Plana Vitrectomy
Pars Plana Vitrectomy is a surgical procedure used to treat eye problems involving the retina and vitreous gel. During the procedure, a surgeon makes small incisions in the pars plana—the part of the eye’s white outer layer—to remove the vitreous gel that fills the eye. This allows access to repair retinal tears, detachments, or remove blood and scar tissue. The vitreous is often replaced with a saline solution, gas, or oil to help the retina heal properly. This minimally invasive surgery aims to restore or preserve vision by addressing specific retinal or vitreous issues.
