Overhydration
Overhydration, also known as water intoxication, occurs when the body takes in more water than it can eliminate. This dilutes the blood’s sodium levels, leading to an imbalance called hyponatremia. Symptoms can include headache, nausea, confusion, and in severe cases, can cause swelling of the brain, seizures, or even be life-threatening. It often happens during excessive water intake, especially during intense exercise or in certain medical conditions. Maintaining a proper balance of fluids is essential for health, and consuming water in moderation based on thirst and activity level helps prevent overhydration.
