Osmosis
Osmosis is the process where water moves across a semi-permeable membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to an area of higher solute concentration. This movement happens to balance concentrations on both sides, effectively diluting the more concentrated solution. The membrane allows water molecules to pass through while blocking larger solute particles. Osmosis is vital for many biological functions, such as maintaining cell water balance, and occurs naturally in processes like the absorption of water by plant roots and the regulation of fluids in our bodies.
