Organization of African Unity
The Organization of African Unity (OAU) was established in 1963 to promote unity and cooperation among African nations. Its main goals included supporting independence movements, fostering economic development, and addressing social and political issues on the continent. The OAU aimed to prevent conflicts and promote peace and stability in Africa. In 2001, it was transformed into the African Union (AU), which continues the OAU's mission with a stronger focus on regional integration, human rights, and sustainable development. The transition marked a shift towards addressing modern challenges facing African countries collaboratively.
